In Vilnius, in the Lazdynai microdistrict on Erfurto Street, the construction of the new Multifunctional Lazdynai Health Center was completed in 2023. This modern swimming pool offers contemporary spaces designed for both athletes and those looking to spend leisure time with their families. Unfortunately, while the pool itself looks excellent, the surrounding environment is disappointing.

Lack of aesthetics in the urban space

Visitors have noticed that Erfurto Street near the pool appears unfinished. The main issues include worn-out outdoor benches, poor condition of tree protections, neglected outdoor sports equipment, and a poorly maintained playground.

Instead of modern and durable tree protections, commonly used in contemporary cities, there are cheap and flimsy structures here that not only fail to serve their function but also mar the overall appearance of the area. These kinds of solutions resemble a neglected suburban zone rather than the modern image of Vilnius.

A little further from the Lazdynai pool, one can find the Lazdynai Polyclinic, next to which there is a children's playground. However, instead of attracting young visitors, it actually discourages them – poor playground flooring and worn-out outdoor sports equipment reinforce the impression of an incomplete environment.

In many cities in Lithuania, as well as other areas of Vilnius, there are well-designed green spaces that blend natural elements with urban aesthetics, creating a harmonious environment for both residents and city guests.

Will action be taken?

Residents hope that the Vilnius City Municipality will take action and complete the work to improve the surroundings, aiming to implement attractive and modern solutions. The year 2025 is already here, yet the Lazdynai area still appears to be under partial development. The city dwellers hope that investment in public spaces will not be limited to just building construction but will also ensure a high-quality environment.

We can only hope that the responsible authorities will address these issues and find solutions that will make the Lazdynai pool area not only a center for sports and leisure but also an aesthetically pleasing part of the city.
